The School of Adult & General Education provides courses in Adult Basic Education such as English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency (HSE). We also provide Developmental Education courses in Math, Integrated Reading/Writing (IRW), and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The Adult General Education (AGE) program in Miami-Dade County is required to follow the performance-based funding guidelines outlined by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). Performance-based funding is an accountability system with a built-in incentive structure that encourages progress toward certain established goals and performance.
The Adult General Education Programs at Miami Lakes Educational Center & Technical College is a remedial support service class designed to assist individuals improve their basic skills in math, reading and language arts. Our classes are designed to address the unique needs of each student and to allow the student to progress as rapidly as possible. Registration Requirements. 16 years of age or older; Not enrolled in day school; Provide a government-issued ID. When enrolling for English Classes or Citizenship Preparation, students must take the CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) test which evaluates the student’s basic skills, English language, and literacy skills.
